
On April 17, a coalition of students, staff, faculty, unions, and community members will gather on Sproul Plaza from 12pm-2pm, as part of the AAUP’s National Day of Action for Higher Education.
Much has happened since the Freedom to Learn rally on March 19. The Trump administration is ramping up its attacks against international students and faculty via visa revocations, detention, and deportation; against research, via the withholding of federal funds from universities across the country; and against independent inquiry, with demands to put departments under federal control.
On April 17 we ask you to Rise Up, not just to defend basic principles and freedoms, but to manifest what UC Berkeley can and must be. The rally and teach-in will showcase what the UC Berkeley community does best, from critically illuminating the present crisis to demonstrating the public scope of our research and envisioning what it would mean to make education free again.
