Berkeley Faculty for the Freedom to Learn

We are a coalition of faculty from UC Berkeley. We have come together out of a sense of mounting alarm at the wholesale attack by the Trump administration on higher education around the country. Our colleges and universities, especially our public institutions, are extraordinary engines of social mobility, critical inquiry, and innovation. We have mobilized to support our University and defend the fundamental freedoms to learn, teach, and research in safety. 

We reject efforts by government officials to harass, deport, and silence members of our community, as well as to dictate our curricula and policies.

We rally to defend our right to think freely, to disagree constructively, and to teach, learn, and conduct research without censorship, loyalty tests, or threats. We will leave no one behind.

We are showing up for UC Berkeley: our students, teachers, staff, administration.  We stand in solidarity with our colleagues at institutions of higher education around the United States, and condemn in the strongest possible terms the attacks on them. We are showing up for every last member of our communities in the widest sense, particularly those most vulnerable to attack, deportation, and violation of their First Amendment, civil, and human rights. We are united.

We need everyone to join this struggle for higher education, justice, and democracy.
